This Editorial Policy sets out how Daily Watch Reports decides what to cover, how we report and edit it, and the standards every article is held to. It sits alongside our Ethics Policy, Standards & Practices, Fact-Checking Policy and Corrections policy.
What we cover, and why
We publish across nine beats — Watch, World, Politics, Money, Tech, Lifestyle, Culture, Sports and Opinion. We choose stories on the basis of relevance, significance and how much genuine understanding we can add — not on how much traffic a headline might attract. We would rather publish fewer, better-sourced pieces than chase volume.
Accuracy first
Accuracy is the priority that outranks all others, including speed. Factual claims are checked against reliable sources before publication, and we link to primary sources — official data, original documents and named authorities — wherever possible, so readers can verify our work. Our process is described in our Fact-Checking Policy.
Independence and fairness
Our reporting is independent of political and commercial influence. We have no political line, and advertisers and sponsors have no say in our coverage (see Ownership & Funding). We aim to be fair: to represent relevant viewpoints accurately, to give people and organisations a reasonable opportunity to respond to significant criticism, and to describe uncertainty honestly rather than manufacture false certainty.
News and opinion
We keep news and opinion clearly separated. News reporting aims to inform without advocacy; opinion and analysis are clearly labelled as such — for example under our Opinion beat — so you always know what you are reading.
Sources and attribution
We prefer named, on-the-record sources and original documentation. Where information comes from another outlet, we attribute it and link to it where possible. We do not plagiarise, and we do not present others’ work as our own. Our handling of anonymous sources is set out in our Standards & Practices.
Updates and corrections
News develops. When we add materially new information to a published story, we update it transparently. When we get something wrong, we correct it openly rather than quietly deleting it — see our Corrections policy.
Use of technology
Technology may assist our workflow — for research, transcription, drafting support or data analysis — but editorial responsibility always rests with people. A human is accountable for the accuracy, fairness and framing of everything we publish.
