In our coverage
We aim to report on communities accurately and without stereotype, to seek out a range of voices and perspectives rather than the most familiar ones, and to cover stories that matter to people often overlooked by mainstream coverage. Fair representation is part of accuracy, not separate from it.
In our sourcing
We make a deliberate effort to widen the range of experts and voices we quote — across background, geography, gender and viewpoint — so our reporting is not narrowed by whoever is easiest to reach.
In our language
We describe people using the terms they use for themselves, avoid language that demeans or marginalises, and write in plain, accessible English. Our commitment to accessible reading is set out in our Accessibility Statement.
Non-discrimination
We do not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age or background — in who we cover, how we cover them, or how we treat colleagues and contributors.
