The plot of the story
The series follows Jen and Matty, two best friends living in the small town of West Odessa, Ohio. They remain best friends after years of growing apart. It’s been three years since their first meeting at the funeral of Matty’s husband. Jen is a tight-lipped, emotionally stunted widow who has shut out everyone from her past. Matty is an unconventional counsellor who’s not even sure she believes in God anymore but loves her job at a local mental health center. When Jen’s son Henry becomes entangled in the town’s drug scene and a dangerous cult, Jen is afraid she’ll never see him again. And she doesn’t know how to tell Matty about all the secrets of her past.
