‘Criminal Minds: Evolution’ is the sixteenth season of the American police procedural crime drama television series ‘Criminal Minds’, consisting of ten episodes. This season premiered on November 24, 2022, on Paramount+ in the United States and on November 25, 2022, on Disney+ internationally.
For a solid decade now, ‘Criminal Minds’ has been a consistent ratings success for CBS. It also had two spin-offs that were successful in their own right: ‘Criminal Minds: Suspect Behaviour’ and ‘Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders’. However, ‘Criminal Minds: Evolution’ is the first season of Criminal Minds to feature lesser-known guest stars. This was a conscious decision for the producers, and ultimately, it worked out for them. They felt that bringing in guest stars from other shows would help give their drama an edge when compared to its competitors.
Story of ‘Criminal Minds: Evolution’
The season takes place in the aftermath of the global pandemic, and it’s up to the Criminal Minds team to stop a serial killer who used the pandemic as a cover to build a network of serial killers around the world. What happened in the crossover?
During a case, the Criminal Minds team captures an unsub (unknown subject) who is revealed to be a member of the International Response Team that Garcia and Prentiss work for called Matthew Simmons. He was being chased by members of the IRT while being tracked by Rossi’s team. There is a struggle between Simmons and Rossi, Rossi wins, but then he is caught by the IRT members. Back at their office in the International Response Team headquarters, Simmons reveals he had been tasked with finding serial killers who escaped during the pandemic to get them to work together. As a result of this, the IRT and Criminal Minds agree to a partnership as “Criminal Minds: Evolution”, with Simmons’ job being to help track down these serial killers
