‘The Walking Dead’ is an American horror drama television series that airs on AMC in the United States. The story, based on a graphic novel of the same name by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics, portrays life in the United States after a zombie apocalypse.
It follows Rick Grimes as he struggles to get his family to safety and searches for his wife Lori and son Carl after they’re separated from him during an undead attack. It is the recipient of numerous awards and nominations, including a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Drama Series in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
‘The Walking Dead’ premiered on October 31, 2010. Based on its reception, AMC renewed the series for a second season of 13 episodes which premiered on October 16, 2011. Two episodes into the second season’s broadcast, AMC announced that the show would return for a third season in 2012. A fourth season was announced on March 27, 2013; this season consists of 16 episodes.
Plot of the ‘The Walking Dead’
Sheriff’s deputy Rick Grimes awakens from a coma in an abandoned hospital; he is quickly attacked by a walker, but manages to kill it, though the process leaves him with a gaping wound on his abdomen. He has been in a coma for weeks; he had gone into shock after being shot while on duty and left for dead.
Rick ventures out of the hospital, encountering numerous undead along the way and finding and rescuing estate-gardener Shane Walsh, who brought him to the hospital after finding him wounded and unconscious on the side of the road. Rick determines that no one else is alive in the hospital.
He forces his way into the building and searches for Lori. He finds her, but is attacked by a walker, who bites his neck. When he regains consciousness, Rick discovers that Lori has bandaged his neck wound with a tourniquet to try to slow the infection, stating “I had a feeling this thing would bite you in two.”
