Seinfeld

‘Seinfeld’ is one of the most popular sitcoms in television history. The show aired from 1989 to 1998, and it was widely acclaimed for its sharply drawn characters and epigrammatic dialogue. It starred Jerry Seinfeld as himself, with friends George Costanza (Jason Alexander), Elaine Benes (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) and Cosmo Kramer (Michael Richards). The show was created by Seinfeld and Larry David, who had written for the show throughout its entire run.

The show’s motto is: “No hugging, no learning.” It does have hugging but it does not have learning. The episodes centre on mundane activities, such as waiting in line at the bank or buying a shirt at the department store or exchanging items at the post office.

Storyline of ‘Seinfeld’

Comedian Jerry Seinfeld is the main character of the show. He is a sarcastic, curmudgeonly, materialistic man; he does not have many friends and does not know how to relate to people. He lives alone in an apartment building with his cat and his girlfriend, who also has a cat as well. He works at Pendant Publishing as an editor who handles artwork and art books for other authors.

George Costanza is the most passive and dependent of all the friends on this show. He is a man who always wants to be in a relationship with another person, but never finds one. He is deeply insecure of his masculinity (especially after his father’s death) or just of himself in general at any given moment. He wants to be liked, but does not know how to act and therefore makes mistakes that he could have avoided if he knew how to act. He is hypercritical of others because he is hypercritical of himself.

Elaine Benes is the first woman who appears on this show. She works as a junior writer on the J. Peterman Catalog, where she is forced to take dictation after every single word spoken by co-workers and boss, Mr. Lippman. She is often bored and frustrated at work, though she does not have much of a life aside from this job. Her relationships with men are often complicated because she can’t seem to find anyone who understands her odd point of view.

The show provides insights on different lifestyles and interests. Its wordplays are really amusing, and they make you laugh so hard. There is a lot of slapstick comedy, where Kramer goes berserk and Costanza gets into serious trouble when his boss calls him middle-class.

The show is full of hilarious scenes that will surely make you laugh out loud.
