Dark Season 3: The Future is Unwritten

dark season 3

“This is the dark season,” says a man in black. “We need to be ready.”

The dark season: it’s been looming for years, and now winter has finally come. We’re coming up on the end of Game of Thrones, with just one more episode left before we find out who will win the game of thrones (and what that might mean for our world). It’s been a long journey, but as always there are questions we want answered before we say goodbye to Westeros forever.

Who will sit on the Iron Throne? Who is Azor Ahai or The Prince that was Promised? What’s going to happen with Bran and Arya, who seem poised for a major showdown in King’s Landing? And what about Cersei Lannister – has her arc ended already, or does she have one last trick up her sleeve?

Season eight of Game of Thrones premieres April 14th. Spring 2019 promises plenty more dark days ahead.

So far there are no indications as to how many episodes season eight might be (though if it’s anything like past seasons we should expect six), but HBO says they’ll all be feature-length rather than running at 50 or 60 minutes.

In 2017, HBO president of programming Casey Bloys hinted that the final season might be longer than a regular TV season – and will surpass 80 hours in total length. That would put it on par with recent seasons’ running times, which have been around 70 or 75 minutes per episode (though some episodes are shorter).

It’s still unclear how many days we’ll need to wait to find out what happens next – but for those who can’t stand the waiting, there are plenty of dark stories about Westeros already available for you to binge-watch! And if nothing else takes your fancy…have a look at our Game of Thrones quiz below: test your knowledge of all things dark and twisty before you watch the final episodes of season four!

Then, the first two sentences of my story: “I had seen enough spoilers by now so there were few surprises up ahead. But still, this is one heck of a dark season three finale! I don’t get how they can end it like that and then expect people not to have any questions about what happens next.”

The episode opens with the survivors of The Sanctuary gathered around a campfire in an orchard. Rick (Andrew Lincoln) is loading his gun and says he can “feel” that they’re being watched, but no one else seems worried. Michonne (Danai Gurira), Rosita (Christian Serratos) and Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) are talking about how great it would be to have some fresh fruit from this place while Tara offers up her knowledge on which berries are edible; she’s been living for three months out in the wilds since leaving Alexandria following Negan’s attack. Glenn Rhee tells Maggie Greene not to worry as there was always something good growing at Hilltop where they were before all hell broke loose.

“I was hoping for a little more of the good shit,” Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) says, “But I’ll take what we can get.” Rick then points out that there is something nearby and everyone gets up to investigate. Walking through rows of apple trees they come across two walkers, who have been decapitated by an unknown assailant – their heads impaled on stakes with dark red blood pouring from them onto the ground below. Michonne draws her katana as Rosita goes into sniper mode but in order to avoid any unnecessary noise Daryl shoots it before she has a chance too; revealing that he’s carrying his crossbow over his back again after abandoning it when travelling inside Alexandria earlier this episode.

Who will be the winner of “the game of thrones?” We don’t know yet, but we’ll find out soon enough. What is your guess? Comment below and share with us! ~~~ The end.
