The Exorcist Reboot

‘The Exorcist,’ the upcoming horror film reboot of William Friedkin’s 1973 supernatural classic, has halted production unexpectedly. The film is currently in pre-production and will resume early next year.

Production of the new ‘Exorcist’ was halted unexpectedly last week on October 26th due to what is being described as a “creative shift,” said Warner Brothers in a statement to Deadline Hollywood before adding that production would resume next year near Christmas.

Named for the villainous demon that possesses and murders a girl during its rampage, ‘The Exorcist’ remake is directed by Australian filmmaker Ben Kohlmann from a screenplay by Jay Basu and Coalman.

The Exorcist  Reboot plot

Some tidbits regarding the plot of the new film:

1. It will feature a young woman who becomes possessed by a demonic entity; her family members and doctors try to figure out what it is and how to remove it.

2. The possession is not a result of an exorcism that would be performed on the woman by a priest; she wasn’t possessed by something or someone she encountered during her possession that they might have needed to get rid of on an exorcism rite, but it’s likely she was possessed before the film starts.

3. It will take place in Los Angeles somewhere not Romania, but somewhere within driving distance from Hollywood, though where exactly inside the city is unclear.

The Exorcist Reboot trailer

1. There is no official release date for the The Exorcist trailer, but a few months ago Danny McBride said it would be released in October. So that window has probably passed.

2. The Exorcist trailer will probably be attached to Kingsman: The Golden Circle, which hits theatres on September 22nd; that is the next horror movie slated to hit theatres.

The Untitled The Exorcist Reboot film will be out in cinemas on October 13, 2023.

The Exorcist Reboot continuity

Exorcist is a horror film that’s about a possessed young girl who is being hunted by priests; the ‘The Exorcist’ was not a huge hit when it was released, but now it has achieved cult fame as one of the most iconic horror films of all time. So when Hollywood reboots it and doesn’t do anything too drastic , it will be criticised as unoriginal and lazy.

So, avoiding that, the new film will probably retcon the series. There were two sequels to William Friedkin’s original ‘The Exorcist’ with a third instalment and a prequel being planned in the 70s but never came to fruition. The prequel and second sequel followed an entirely different set of characters; they were not connected to Ellen Burstyn’s character.

Yes and no is the answer. Speaking to Total Movie, Green said: “I like all the Exorcist  reboot movies and not only do I like them, I think they can all fall into the acceptable mythology for what I’m doing. It’s not like I’m saying, ”Pretend that The Exorcist reboot 2 never happened.” That’s fine to exist.

The Exorcist Reboot release date

In October 2018, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Paramount was planning a remake of the 1973 film The Exorcist. As of January 2019, it remains in development with Bill Green writing the script and director Andy Muschietti attached to direct. Although no release date has been confirmed for any potential revival, there is an untitled reboot planned for 2022. The film is also said to be produced by Mary Parent and David Ellison.Universal Pictures distributed “The Exorcist” and later released a prequel in 2010 with another prequel slated for release in 2020 (also filmed under the title “The Next Exorcism”).

The movie  release date scheduled for  and no, this isn’t a hoax – Friday, October 13, 2023
