Single parents earned a legacy of admirers for their honest and entertaining portrayal of single parents trying to navigate their personal lives while raising a family. The series, directed by Leighton Meister, aired its final episode of the season this week, leaving fans wondering if the single parents will return for season 3. Only time will tell.
So far, there is no official news from ABC about whether the single father will make it to the third season. While indecision may disappoint fans of the family comedy, the show is in good company as ABC released several shows on the air in the wake of a coronavirus-related shutdown. Single parents drank other popular shows like Black-ish, A Million Little Things, and the police called The Rookie.
As noted in the show’s title, the series focuses on single parents (played by actors like Meister, Brad Garrett, and Jake Choi), who initially bond with their friendship with Will (Taran Killam). Yes, the father of 30- Dad invested in his family. He completely neglected his personal life. As the group pushes Will to focus on himself, they also trust him with their own family / personal balance.
Relative to the third season, ratings are often an important indicator of whether a show will be renewed again. Unfortunately, single parents drowned in the audience starting in 2020, especially in television’s iconic 18-49 demographic. Single parents averaged a .88 out of 100 in the audience in their first season. While the average rating for the current season fell to .61, the overall decline for the entire season.
But co-producer J.J. Philbin already has plans for a third season, including more appearances by Meister’s real-life husband and occasional co-star Adam Brodie. He and Layton are the most beautiful couple in the world, and when they are together, the chemistry is off the charts, which I don’t think is a surprise, but then also, it’s fun to watch, “Philbin told ET. He honestly has become in such an important part. Our outfit, we can’t imagine doing the show without it. “
