The Batman movies were the best of the DC movies and worst of the Marvel (Marvel sucked). The films were part of a trilogy that included Man of Steel & Superman Returns. A reboot was made in 2012 due to Nolan’s departure after The Dark Knight Rises. The content was established by Nolan and the trilogy was completed by J. McQuarrie and director Zack Snyder. All three films were based on the Batman comic books written by Bob Kane. The Dark Knight Rises is a 2012 superhero film directed by Christopher Nolan, who co-wrote the screenplay with David S. Goyer, from a story by Nolan and Goyer. He also produced, while Emma Thomas-Lloyd served as executive producer under her production company LightBox Entertainment but had no involvement with the writing of the film itself.

The entire main cast of the trilogy is present in the film including the main character himself, Batman. The sequential order of the cast members is:

The film is not based on a comic, but instead a story. The story is set in the future after 2032 in Gotham City, where the Joker has been defeated by Batman and half of his evil plans have failed (the other half succeeded). The new villain, Kahn, has taken over most of Gotham and becomes every bit as powerful as Batman himself. Kahn kidnaps Lucius Fox and then goes on to kill Bruce’s girlfriend, Julie Madison. Bruce uses his time machine to go back in time and get rid of Kahn before he can kill Julie. In doing so, however, Bruce is now creating an alternate history where the Joker succeeds in everything he plans.

Below is a table for all of the characters that appeared in both movies:

The film was released on March 4th 2002 and was a success at the box office taking in $48 million on its opening weekend and $173 million worldwide. The film was the second highest grossing movie of the year behind Star Wars Episode II. The film received positive reviews from critics with an 82% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, out of 163 reviews counted, and a rating average score of 7.2/10. The critical consensus calling it a “faithful adaptation” and “a fanboy’s delight”. However, some fans were upset that Batman did not kill the Joker at the end because it took away too much of his personality.

The film has since been included on several critics’ lists of the best comic book adaptations, such as “Comic Book Resources” “Top 100 Comic Book Movies” and “Empire”.

The next film would be The Batman Begins in 2005. Unlike the previous two films which were based on comics, the Batman trilogy is based on a story by Christopher Nolan called Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 & 2. The story itself was written by Frank Miller, who wrote the original graphic novel that introduced Batman in 1939.

The film’s soundtrack was composed by Hans Zimmer, who also worked on the other two films in the trilogy and received an Oscar nomination for his work on Batman Begins. However, he did not return to score The Dark Knight or The Dark Knight Rises, those scores being composed by James Newton Howard and Hans Zimmer respectively. However, John Williams did compose a new Batman theme for this film primarily using many of the original motifs.

The score was recorded in London, England by the 100-piece string orchestra of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the 70-piece choir of Abbey Road Studios, conducted by James Shearman. The score received nominations for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media at the 2009 Grammy Awards and Best Original Score at the 2009 World Soundtrack Awards.

The Dark Knight Rises is a 2012 action film directed by Christopher Nolan starring Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne / Batman, an iconic comic book superhero. The film is the third and final installment in Nolan’s Batman film trilogy, following Batman Begins (2005) and The Dark Knight (2008). The Dark Knight Rises was produced by Emma Thomas and Christopher Nolan. It is written by Jonathan Nolan and Christopher Nolan and features an ensemble cast. Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard all reprise their roles from previous films. Other actors include Liam Neeson, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard who have all previously appeared in the series. The story takes place eight years after the second film and one year after Batman Begins. The film’s plot follows a mercenary named Bane who is an operative of Gotham City’s criminal underworld and seeks to destroy Batman. He forces the city’s ruling elite into giving him control of the city’s law enforcement agencies including its police force, GCPD, intelligence division and its fire department, FDNY.

The Dark Knight Rises received positive reviews from critics and holds a rating of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 282 reviews, with an average rating of 8.2/10. The consensus states “Led by Christian Bale’s sensational performance, The Dark Knight Rises is a thrilling conclusion to Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy.” It also holds a score of 93% based on 49 reviews at Metacritic.

The film was released on July 20, 2012. It was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Cinematography. The film received a further eight nominations for the American Cinema Editors and BAFTA Award for British Academy Film Awards. The film also won numerous other awards including a total of four Critics Choice Movie Awards and five Empire Awards.

The origins of Christopher Nolan’s next superhero film Batman Begins date back to the 1980s. It would be the first in a trilogy of films, followed by The Dark Knight (released in 2008) and The Dark Knight Rises (released in 2012).
