Just in time for the release of the new live-action “The Little Mermaid” remake, Disney has introduced several updates to the original movie. The changes are intended to make it a better movie, so Live Action Remake will be slightly different from the original Disney film.
The movie is directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, who also directed the original 1989 animated version. The movie is written by Emily Carmichael and Becky Johnston. There will be new characters in the movie, but no leads have been confirmed yet.
What is changing in Live-Action “The Little Mermaid”?
The first confirmed change will involve Prince Eric’s backstory. In the original version, he’s an arrogant spoiled prince who meets and falls in love with Ariel when she is on land. She saves his life during a storm, so he says that if she takes him to see her people, he’ll give her legs back. That doesn’t happen of course because Ursula turns her into a human instead.
There may be following changes take place:
• Ariel has a sister called Natalya who was introduced in this version of “The Little Mermaid”. In case you missed it, she is also a mermaid!
• Ariel’s father King Triton was estranged from his daughter before her transformation into a human. Now he only wants her back if she can find him one true love within three days.
Which Characters are not appearing in Live-Action “The Little Mermaid”?
The characters who won’t appear in the remake include Sebastian, Flounder, and King Triton. However, it remains to be seen if Ursula will have an updated design for the new version. But it seems that she’ll have more of a supporting role than she had in the original movie.

Naveen, the prince from Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog”, is rumored to be a potential character that could take Prince Eric’s place. He’d have to have a different backstory of course, but it seems like an interesting choice. The lead role might go to the daughter of Lea Salonga who played Mulan in the original animated version. There will also be new additions such as an evil sea witch named Morgana and a human pirate named Carina who will possibly become Ariel’s best friend.

They seem to be after her voice, which has been hidden in an enchanted shell guarded by Flounder and Sebastian. Fearing that she will be forever separated from her true love Prince Eric and her life under the sea, she must find a way to unite all of those who help surround her.
