Wonder Woman 3 is “officially dead” at DC Studios

Wonder Woman 3 by film Director Patty Jenkins is no longer moving forward at DC, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, which suggests that this may be the first of some major changes at the studio. Wonder Woman 3 reportedly isn’t happening anymore and supposed there are even more shakeups for this superhero franchise ahead.

News of the decision to pass on the sequel—which had just had a treatment handed in by Jenkins, describing what she had like to do with the franchise moving forward comes as newly minted DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran prepare for what’s expected to clearing meeting next week, laying out their plans for the embattled superhero franchise to Warner Bros.

Why was Wonder Woman 3 canceled?

Pictures co-chairs and co-CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy told Jenkins that her Gal Gadot-starring sequel is “considered dead,” because it does not match up with the studios’ new and upcoming plans. THR added that although the cost to make the film was not a reason behind the cancellation, the studio may be saving “tens of millions of dollars” as the actress was set to receive USD $20 million for her role as the titular superhero and Jenkins would have received USD $12 million. According to Hollywood Reporter, the two CEOs would have effectively rejected the processing of the project’s interim phase that sits between the subject matter and the final script and therefore temporarily “blocked” the film. Wonder Woman 3 is “officially dead”? It would seem so, at least in the version created by Patty Jenkins.

Who was the cast in Wonder Woman?

Diana Prince or Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot):

An immortal demigoddess, an Amazon princess, and a warrior. She is the daughter of Hippolyta, the Amazonian queen of Themyscira, and Zeus, the king of the Olympian Gods.

 Steve Trevor (Chris Pine):

Steve Trevor was an American pilot and spy from World War I and the lost love of Diana who died in the first film. Steve’s soul possesses another man, portrayed by Kristoffer Polaha in mirror reflections.

Barbara Minerva or Cheetah (Kristen Wiig) :

A highly insecure geologist and a gemologist who is befriended by Diana.

Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal):

According to Jenkins, Lord’s character is modeled on Bernie Madoff and Donald Trump. Director Patty Jenkins who is the director of the film has stated Pascal’s performance as Lord was inspired by Gordon Gekko.

Robin Wright as Antiope:

Antiope is Hippolyta’s sister, a General of the Amazon army, and Diana’s aunt.

Connie Nielsen as Hippolyta:

Queen of Themyscira and Diana’s mother.

Who were the Returning Characters in Wonder Woman 3 if it was released?

Gal Gadot was confirmed for the movie. Some cast members from the previous movies are likely to show up in the third film. Wonder Woman 1984 pushed Diana to move on from Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), it seems unlikely that he would be in the third movie.

Kristen Wiig returns as Barbara Minerva / Cheetah. The character is one of Wonder Woman’s most important characters in the comics and yet she was mostly a secondary villain in Wonder Woman 1984.

It would be possible to see Connie Nielsen’s Queen Hippolyta and Robin Wright’s General Antiope will return for Wonder Woman 3.

There was also the possibility that Lynda Carter could return as the legendary Amazon warrior Asteria.
