The perception of Steven Spielberg ‘Steven Spielberg’

The Fabelmans

As the school year winds down everyone seems to be anticipating the game-changing event in their lives that will finally make life great again. For most high school students, it is an upcoming date or a promise of acceptance to their dream college. For Sam Fabelman (Gabriel LaBelle), the last month of his senior year is largely uneventful and has just given him a feeling of hopelessness. As the time draws closer to the high school graduation ceremony, he realises that the only thing that might make life worth living is if he had some sort of revelation during his graduation speech and finally set him on a different path for next year.

What is the story all about?

The Perception of Steven Spielberg is a coming-of-age story about the power of films to help a young man escape from his seemingly indifferent reality. The story raises questions about the relationship between films and reality and why one person might perceive a film as something that should be taken seriously while another might consider it to be purely entertainment. It also brings up issues of what happens when someone decides that they don’t like their life and tries to find a way out by looking at films as a potential source of inspiration.

What is the plot of the movie?

The film is divided into seven two-minute-long acts encompassing a period of about 17 years. The first act details Sammy’s life from age 7 to about age 18. It portrays Sammy as an ordinary young boy who loves science fiction and fantasy movies, reads comic books, and loves to play with his science kit. Although he has no plans for the future, he is happy because his mom is always on the lookout for opportunities.

What makes the movie interesting?

“What would it be like if we were looking at a film and someone else was looking at it and had a completely different point of view?” The film answers this question by allowing the audience to compare how two people see the same scene in a movie. For example, when Sammy first meets Bull, he sees him as an adversary and is instantly mistrustful of him. At the same time, Bull sees Sammy as an innocent victim who might one day become important to him.
