The 2009 Paramount Pictures science fiction film is an American reboot of the franchise that was launched in 1966. One of the twists in Star Trek is that the first movie’s protagonist, Captain James T. Kirk, petulantly refuses to believe or act like Spock or Scotty, his father’s former office, and best friend respectively. The result is a self-destructive journey that eventually sees him passionately embracing his father’s values and principles. Using the Vulcan mind meld to save Spock’s life causes mental anguish for Kirk, who loses all memory of his time with Khan.

The plot of the story
Kirk, now an admiral aboard a Federation starship, journeys to New Vulcan. After examining the planet’s offerings, he is awed by their ancient knowledge and implicitly compares it to humans’ knowledge when they first began exploring their solar system in the 18th century, remarking that “these people have been here far longer than we’ve been.”Kirk asks Spock what he can do for New Vulcan, but Spock refuses to help Kirk because Kirk’s arrogance is destroying the friendship between his father and his mentor.
What makes this movie interesting?
The Enterprise’s captain is Jim Kirk. Kirk had a troubled relationship with his father. Though they were close, Commodore was disliked and believed by the crew as a “bratty child”. He also was not always right and occasionally made poor decisions as he ignored what his other crew members thought about his decision. Captain Pike, who served before Commodore, does not think much of the new commodore and doesn’t like him at all.
