The movie’s story starts as Calum (Paul Mescal) who is a divorced writer who decides he needs to have a change of scenery and moves to an island where his daughter (Frankie Corio) lives. He is being picked up by his daughter and driving around town, she tries to convince him not to stay but she has no choice. We are taken on that ride with them through the island’s town and its people.
The development of the characters is written in such a way that we start off understanding Calum , but then gradually come to understand Sophie better. The script does this very well in parallel scenes where Michael talks about his life and Sophie just observes through her actions.

His skills really shine for this role making him believable as both a father and as Calum. His portrayal perfectly showed us that this man isn’t afraid to open up about his feelings to his daughter which we can so easily relate to.
