1. Read NCERT-
The language of the NCERT textbook is easier to understand as they explain the complex concepts in a simple manner and also keep the learning requirements of students in mind. Many suggest that studying NCERT thoroughly is enough for scoring over 90% in Biology. Use other reference materials only when you get stuck with a concept and refrain from referring to any new textbooks at the last moment. 2. Revise, revise and revise-
Biology is a vast subject and the concepts are complex. Revising just one night before the board exam worsens stress and anxiety levels and is extremely difficult to finish. Revising the concepts frequently is a better option to remember the concepts better and keep them in your memory for a longer time. Some suggest revising the course a minimum of three times for best results. Memorize all the formulas and diagrams well. Making flashcards and using mnemonics is a strong way of remembering concepts. If you do not have enough time on your hand, start with easier concepts and save the time-consuming ones for later.
3. Attend most of the lab sessions-
Biology is the study of life and its evolution and labs are a visual aid that helps to nail those concepts down. So, actively participate in performing the lab sessions and take down all the necessary observations made.
4. Draw diagrams-
There are going to be multiple diagrams to learn and practising all of them one night before the exam would confuse you more. Drawing diagrams from the mind without practising is even worse not only because it would slow you down, but you won’t be sure about the accuracy of diagrams either. Hence spend some good time practising diagrams neatly to improve speed. Moreover, diagrams are a good way of perceiving information, and representing the specific information in the form of well-labelled diagrams can award you more marks than those big paragraphs.
5. Make flowcharts-
Flowcharts are a great way to remember information well. Use it as a tool in learning new concepts along with using sticky notes and mnemonic devices.
6. Use your time well during the exam-
The question paper is divided into the sections shown below.

Start with Section A and try to complete it in under 25 minutes. Spend about 40 minutes and 1 hour on Section B and Section C respectively followed by 45 minutes on Section D. Once you complete the paper, don’t submit it right away. Check your answers and make changes if required.
7. Have a study partner-
Learning everything by yourself can be tiring and intimidating. Having a study partner will make the studying process more effective, but it will also provide other benefits. You can share resources with them, manage time, and take turns teaching others the concepts that they find a bit tricky. Study partners also motivate each other to strive better and make the process fun. You can solve the difficult questions together and learn new techniques for remembering concepts.
8. Take mock exams-
Taking mock exams will not only help you analyze the paper better but it would also prepare you to sit in the exam hall for 3 hours. It would give you more practice and confidence in drawing diagrams and composing answers. Stick to the expected answers to gain as many marks as possible. Take previous years’ paper solutions by toppers as a reference and notice the pattern in the answers. Look at all the previous years’ papers well in advance and focus more on the concepts holding high weightage.
9. Focus on your weak points-
Take your time to learn the concepts that you find difficult. Practice and revise it often to remember it. Use other study materials as a reference to understand it and don’t be shy to rely on others to learn the concept. Reward yourself for improving on your weak points and don’t give up. Taking mock tests would help you get a better idea of what kind of questions you have difficulty writing.
If your handwriting or paper presentation is illegible, try to write the answers neater by practising it beforehand. Think before jotting down the answers.
10. Don’t give up-
Rome wasn’t built in a day and you can’t master all the concepts in one day. It’s going to take a good amount of time and loads of hard work to get the desired result but it will all be worth it in the end. Take frequent breaks while studying to keep your mind fresh and stay hydrated. Don’t forget to revise the concepts often to drill them into your mind. Make a timetable to give time for other subjects too and stick to it. Don’t binge-watch shows and try not to study too much before the exams. Revise diagrams, formulae the day before the exam, and stick with light revision. Structure your answers well.
