Nicolas Winding Refn is at the helm of Copenhagen Cowboy, a new television series set in his hometown. It will be about the many people living on society’s margins and the dark world that lies beneath Denmark’s shiny exterior. The series is to launch on 12 January 2018.
It is a Netflix 6-episode series. The story is about a woman who jumps into the criminal underworld of Denmark in search of revenge.
Refn is the creator, director, and executive producer of the series that is produced by his production company Space Rocket Nation. He has written the pilot episode along with his partner and co-writer, Danish journalist and crime novelist Anders Rønnow Klarlund.
After a lifetime of servitude and an urge to start anew, Miu wants to dive into the Landscape of Copenhagen’s criminal underworld. Miu searches for justice and enacts revenge, she meets her nemesis, Rakel as they jump on a quest through the Natural and the supernatural. The Past transforms and defines their future as the two women but they discover they are not alone, they are many.
The Danish-Chinese co-production is a child of Nicolas and his partner, crime novelist Anders Rønnow Klarlund. Their TV company Space Rocket Nation is based in Copenhagen with offices in London. The series has received funding from The Danish Film Institute, the Film and TV Fund from the UK film agency Creative Europe, the MEDIA Programme of the European Union, as well as Alpha Blue’s equity fund.
Winding Refn was born in Copenhagen and grew up in Copenhagen and New York City. He moved back to Denmark at the age of 13. He worked as a fashion photographer during his early career years while also directing short films. In 2009, he wrote and directed his first feature film, Pusher, which premiered at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival. The original film trilogy consists of Pusher (1996), Pusher II (2004), and Pusher III (2005).
Pusher was a box office hit in Denmark, it also received critical praise as one of the most promising Danish movies in years and Refn won the Danish Robert Award for Best New Director. In 2004, he released his second feature, Bleeder, an internationally produced movie that he also wrote. The movie did not do well at the box office but it became a cult classic among fans.
Copenhagen Cowboy is a story of a woman, who is released after lifetime of slavery and then jumps into the criminal underworld for revenge. we have to say that the action of this movie is next level. and the CGI will be good.
