Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions announced this week that they are developing the live-action, big budget film ‘Gran Turismo’. The cast has not yet been disclosed, but there has been speculation that James Franco might be tapped for a starring role.
The ‘Gran Turismo’ franchise by developer Polyphony Digital and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment consists of dating back to 1997. It’s unknown how many hours of footage will be needed to create the film’s storyline.

‘Gran Turismo’ is a racing game. It’s the race where you’re always trying to get around first, and it takes place in a fictional world. Furthermore, since every player can control their own car, the main challenge is how effectively they can control their car. In order to do that, they have to learn how to drive in virtual environments which look realistic based on computer-generated images.

Sony Pictures says that the movie won’t be like Fast and Furious or have a storyline such as The Fast and Furious series. Instead they are going to create an original storyline that revolves around racing and the ‘Gran Turismo’ world.
The ‘Gran Turismo’ series has sold more than 60 million copies worldwide, making it one of PlayStation’s best-selling titles of all time. The first title was released in Japan in 1997 on the PlayStation console.
This is a true Story about High-profile racing driver Jann Mardenborough was 19 years old when he started playing the ‘Gran Turismo’ game at home. After just one week into playing, Jann was already beating his older brother Darius in gaming challenges to become Nissan’s latest champion. He then became an actual professional race car driver after winning 3 consecutive ‘Mardenborough Challenges’. In total, he has won 10 online Nissan challenges and in one of them he earned himself a spot in the European Le Mans Series. Jann is now managed by the Richard Hammond Racing Holding. So, Jann is now a racing driver who is trained to be a professional race car driver by ‘Gran Turismo’.
‘Gran Turismo‘ is directed by Neill Blomkamp and written by Zach Baylin and Jason Hall. Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan (PlayStation Production) Producing along with Doug Belgrad , Josh Bratman and Dana Brunetti. The Creator of the game , Kazunori Yamauchi, is the Executive Producer of the movie.
Sony Pictures will release this movie in theatres on August 11, 2023. So, fasten your seat belt and get ready for the test.
