A24 has shared the first look at “Beau Is Afraid,” the upcoming horror from “Midsomer” director Ari Aster. Joaquin Phoenix stars in the film as a successful entrepreneur, and the narrative is said to follow the character across multiple decades. The official “Beau Is Afraid” synopsis from A24 reads: “A paranoid man embarks on an epic odyssey to get home to his mother in this bold and ingeniously depraved new film from writer-director Ari Aster.”
A paranoid man embarks on an epic odyssey to get home to his mother in this bold and ingeniously depraved Beau is Afraid is an upcoming fictional horror-thriller film, in which the protagonist, Beau (Joaquin Phoenix), embarks on a journey to get home to his mother.
In the trailer, he travels all over the country and meets various people along the way. For example, there’s a guy who has a pet iguana that he keeps in his bathtub. The iguana makes its way into some of the trailers and other promotional materials for Beau Is Afraid, I would say that this film has a very twisted, dark humour to it that kind of just sets the tone for the whole thing.
It feels like you will be watching something very surreal and twisted in an incredibly witty way.
Beau Is Afraid is set to be released theatrically in the United States by A24 on April 21, 2023. Maybe 2023 is the year that audiences are truly ready for something so abstract, and if anyone can lead the charge into a Dali-eques film, it’s Ari Aster with the help of Joaquin Phoenix. The film is notable because it’s written and directed by Ari Aster, a prolific screenwriter who is best known for his first feature, 2018’s “Hereditary”.
What do you think? Who would you cast in the film? Who would you NOT cast in the film?
For those of you who want to see a description of “Beau Is Afraid”, I have to say that this story is so exquisitely crafted and well-written.
So many questions will be answered in this film. What is the effect that his mother has on him? How does he manipulate people, and why? Each character is so well-written and carefully crafted.
This is one movie that will not disappoint you in any way, shape, or form. Beau is Afraid has quite the task ahead of it. Not only is it Ari Aster’s third attempt after two horrific hits in Hereditary and Midsummer, but it’s also his first collaboration with Joaquin Phoenix, the enigmatic icon who fell in love with an AI in Her and turned the Joker into a haunting Scorsese-ensue figure in Joker.
If this movie is anything like Aster’s previous work, there’s sure to be some logical through line tying all these disparate scenes together, but their surrealism is obvious. It’s clear this is a movie that will fit in alongside Eraser’s head and I’m thinking of ending things on the shelf of all-time best absurdist horror.
It looks like we’re going to get a number of JOAQUIN in this movie, including a creepily realistic de-aged version
The Beau Is Afraid release date is April 21, 2023. The estimated budget for this feature film is $60 million dollars.
