A new Hunger Games prequel is based on the movie novel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and this is what fans can expect from the film adaptation. Lionsgate brought the original Susan Collins book trilogy to start in 2012 on the big screen. By Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, The Hunger Games launched a successful franchise for the studio.
In 2019 it was announced that Collins was writing a new novel in the Hunger Games franchise and was already planning to become a movie. The new book The Book of Songbirds and Snakes is the prequel/spin-off of the previous trilogy. One of the main characters in the novel is the young Coriolanus Snow (who becomes the president of Panama as an adult), with his attention already proving to be a controversial decision.
The Hunger Games prequel to developing cinema
Lionsgate announced in April 2020 that The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes would officially get a film adaptation. The film was confirmed to be in development, with two significant returns for the big screen franchise; Francis Lawrence returns to Hunger Games to direct the prequel after directing the last three innings and will do so based on a script by Michael Arand. The Oscar-winning writer only wrote the script for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, as Peter Craig and Danny reinforced both parts of Mockinggen.
Hunger Games Prequel Movie Release Date
The official release date for the Hunger Games prequel movie isn’t yet, but when will it be a hit in theatres? Lionsgate appeared on the release schedule to find a comfortable home for the Hunger Games franchise, with the last three movies coming in late November. With development only starting in 2020, it’s reasonable to think it could take around a year to get the script right and go through pre-production, with the possibility of being able to film for some time in 2021.
