Katy Keene’s journey has been brief. The CW has decided to cancel the Riverdale spin-off, starring Lucy Hale, after a single season.
According to Deadline, it has been the chain that has made the decision. However, the studio behind Katy Keene, Warner Bros. Television, plans to look for other options to continue the fiction. Katy Keene is the only series of The CW that has not been renewed this season, and that is that the production has been very behind in terms of the audience regarding titles like Batwoman or Nancy Drew.
Lucy Hale has confirmed the news through a video on Instagram. “We have not renewed for a second season. These things happen, it has happened to me several times, and each time it happens it is very sad,” admitted the actress. “I’m composing this video so I can get it from me, and there’s no circulation,” he added.
Set five years after the events of Riverdale, Katy Keene revolves around the Archie Comics character of the same name, a fashion addict trying to make a name for herself in the industry in New York City. The first season consisted of 13 episodes, premiered in early February and ended in mid-May. It was mostly well-received by critics and fans of the original series; so much so that it holds a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Although Katy Keene will not be returning to The CW, viewers will be able to enjoy Riverdale, which will debut its fifth season in January 2021.
